Nexans introduces DISTINGO™, an innovative low voltage power cable for office and industrial buildings*
Designed to make electricians’ everyday work easier, the new cable features two major enhancements: length marking and color marking.
Paris, June 26, 2013 – Nexans, a worldwide expert in the cable industry, is introducing DISTINGO™, a new low voltage power cable for fixed U 1000 R2V installations, with cross-sections from 1.5 to 16mm² and 1 to 5 conductors. The U 1000 R2V cable category covers a range of products that professional electrical installers use most frequently inside office and industrial buildings for the wiring of outlets and lighting equipment, powering of machinery and distribution of electricity from power meters.
Two innovative features for professionals
DISTINGO™ features two major enhancements that will highly benefit users: length marking and color marking.
In order to make installers’ everyday work easier, Nexans has designed a new length marking system called METRIUM™ and patented at the INPI (National Institute of Industrial Property). It includes two main features, i.e. the double marking with both the length value which makes it possible to cut precise lengths but also to keep the number visible at both ends of cable and the incrementation direction indicated by – and + signs. The system is available on all packaging types (including coils and drums) so that the remaining cable length can be easily and quickly read at all times. As a result, professional electrical installers will have better control of their inventory before and after working on site, as well as complete records of the amount of cable used so that accurate invoices can be raised as soon as the installation is completed. In addition, valuable time will be saved during stock taking.
DISTINGO™ also features color marking for the specific cross-section. The outer sheath for each of the six available cross-sections including 1.5, 2.5, 4, 6, 10, and 16mm² is marked with a unique color stripe. The instant visual identification of cross-section eliminates mistakes during installation. For added visibility, the coil wrappings have also been redesigned. Installers will thus save time both at their own storage facilities and at their distributors’ as they will be able to check the accuracy of orders at a glance.
U-1000 R2V cables—a very competitive market
The U-1000 R2V product category accounts for nearly 40% of the overall building market, generating about 500 million euros of sales in France annually. These cables are mainly sold through professional electrical distributors. The U-1000 R2V cable is manufactured in line with French standard NFC 32-321 which fully specifies the product.
“In a very competitive market, innovation is more than ever a key differentiator for Nexans. As the general market becomes increasingly commoditized, we remain committed to developing new products that meet our customers’ needs, such as DISTINGO™,” said Jean-Philippe Machon, Executive Vice President Europe Distributors & Installers Market Line for Nexans.
All DISTINGO™ cables are manufactured in France and are already available on the French market.
